The underwater world off the Big
Island's Kona Coast is known as a premier destination for SCUBA divers.
Any why not? Its calm, crystal clear water, protected from standard
trade-wind patterns by two sprawling mountain masses, often allows
visibility in excess of 100 feet making the view of the spectacular
marine landscape and its teeming sea life a diver's dream.
There are hundreds of diving spots along the coast and no lack of
diving companies ready to be of service, but if the closest you've
come to diving is a leap off a board into a swimming pool, you're
going to need a few lessons.
